Cameras

Below is a list of cameras that I currently use or have used but still recommend. I have provided affiliate links below, and that just means that if you choose to order something using the link it wont cost you any extra but I will get a little kickback on the sale which helps supports me and my work!

Canon EOS 1DX Mark ii

This is my main workhorse, a professional full frame DSLR known for its 20.2MP sensor, dual DIGIC 6+ processors, and advanced 61-point autofocus. Designed for high-performance photography and 4K video recording, it excels in sports and action scenarios. Renowned for its durability, speed, and versatility, it's a top choice among professional photographers. That being said, although this is my baby i would not recommend it as there are other options that would be better suited astrophotography for a better price range.

Canon EOS 5D Mark iii

This is my first dslr camera. 12 years old, 22.3 megapixels, full frame, this thing has been through everything and has proven to be a heck of a workhorse. At the moment it serves as a backup/timelapse camera. Unless you find a crazy deal on this thing, i would not recommend it for astrophotography just because there are a lot of other options out there.

Canon EOS Rebel T3i(600D)

This is my go-to recommendation for someone wanting to get started in astrophotography, or even regular photography. Its a great budget friendly camera that holds up really well for its price point. It features an 18-megapixel APS-C sensor, DIGIC 4 image processor, and a vari-angle LCD screen that makes vlogging or shooting objects at any position extremely easy. I found this camera used with a kit lens for around $250-300 us dollars on eBay. If you are wanting to get serious about photography, but also aren’t sure if you want to dive right into the heavy hitters, this is what i recommend!

Canon EOS R

The Canon EOS R, a renowned mirrorless camera, is equipped with a high-quality full-frame sensor boasting impressive 30.3 megapixels. With advanced autofocus, 4K video capabilities, and a sleek design, the EOS R appeals to both photographers and videographers. I am currently using a modified H-alpha version which allows me to collect more of the deep red light emitted by celestial objects in nebulae and star forming regions. This camera was loaned to me by Spencer’s Camera, and they are my goto for astrophotography cameras!

Canon G7X Mark ii

The Canon G7X Mark II is a compact point-and-shoot camera known for its excellent image quality, 1-inch 20.1MP sensor, and fast f/1.8-2.8 lens. With a tilting touchscreen, built-in Wi-Fi, and advanced autofocus, it's been my go-to camera for vlogging for the last 6 years or so. This thing is a true workhorse, and i love that it has a built in ND filter and a easy timelapse mode. It also has night shot mode which takes star trail photos, star timelapse, and even star portraits!

Sionyx Aurora Pro

The Aurora Pro is a special digital night vision camera. It excels at capturing video and images in extreme low light situations. This is a really cool gadget to have, especially for astronomy. I have used it to capture real time footage of meteors during showers, and also have used it with my Dobsonian telescopes to see beautiful deep space objects like the Andromeda Galaxy and the Orion Nebula. Its an incredible camera and its great for just observing stars in the sky especially in light polluted areas.

ZWO Asi 533MC

The ZWO ASI 533MC is a dedicated astronomy camera with a 1-inch CMOS sensor, offering high sensitivity and low noise for detailed astrophotography. This means its entirely different than your typical photography camera. There are no buttons or a screen on it, as it is meant to be paired with your telescope and is controlled through a computer or tablet. Its cooled design minimizes thermal noise during long exposures, making it ideal for capturing faint celestial objects. Known for high resolution and compatibility with different telescopes, it's a popular choice among astrophotographers.

2MP USB 3.0 Telescope Camera, 1.25 Inches Monochrome Camera and Guide Camera for Astrophotography. This is my go-to guide camera but can also be used for planetary imaging.

SVBONY SV305M Pro Monochrome Camera
